Josh Hearne- Float Pool

"I am an employee here at Texas Children's Hospital and have always been very proud
to work here. I believe we have the best staff and best physicians in the world.
Recently my child was hospitalized at Texas Children's Hospital and I was able to
experience what other families face while they are here. As a parent, I am
convinced that Texas Children's Hospital is a remarkable place with exceptional
staff and physicians.
All the Units and staff were wonderful and caring, but one place and one particular
nurse really stood out. We spent 8 hours in the PACU post-op because the PICU was
full that night. When my son finally got a bed in the PICU it was not the best
location in the unit. We were assigned bed space 9a. Three beds were squished into
this little area. It was a hard night for my son as he just had brain surgery and
was having some pain. The night nurse was very good and managed his pain well.
However, the nurse that came on the next shift, Josh Hearne, was exceptional. We
were in MRI when his shift started. He met us down in MRI and transported us back
up to PICU. He made sure my son was comfortable. He explained everything to him
and talked to my son about things he enjoys such as hunting and fishing. When my
son was having trouble going to the bathroom in the bedpan, he went out of his way
to get a bedside commode and got him up himself. You would not have known how busy
the PICU was that morning because of all the time Josh spent with my son. Because
of his attitude and willingness to go the extra mile to help us, Josh got him
through the most difficult post-op day. Being squished in that small space in the
PICU could have been an awful experience -- but, because of Josh it was one of the
better experiences. My son will always remember this time in his life, and the one
nurse's name he still remembers is Josh's."
