On April 4th, I had arrived to work but was having difficulty breathing due to my asthma. My daughter was called to pick me up and drive me home. As I sat on the bench inside the EC entrance with co-workers, waiting for my daughter, Jonathan approached and asked me if I was alright. He convinced me not to get in the car with my daughter but to go back to one of the EC rooms so he could give me some steroids. Within minutes Jonathan had an IV started, steroids running, a doctor in the room and had me admitted into the system. When I refused transfer to Bayfront Medical Center because of my pulmonary doctor location, he quickly made the arrangements to have me transported to Manatee Memorial Hospital by EMS. He stayed with me and kept me calm while waiting for transport. Shortly after my arrival to Manatee Memorial Hospital, I was intubated and placed on a ventilator and spent several days in the ICU.

I truly believe had I gotten in the car with my daughter that night, this story may have ended very differently. Jonathan took the time to stop, look and see that I was in trouble. Convincing me to stay was a task in itself but he did it without effort. At a time when I wasn’t thinking clearly he was thinking of me.

Thank you Jonathan for all you do on a nightly basis for all of our patients and thank you for being there for me.
