Jon is excellent because he advocates, truly cares, and goes the extra mile for my child at all times. He cares for my son as if he was his own. Jon is both compassionate and knowledgeable, which gives me comfort when I can't be by my son's side. If something is wrong, Jon speaks up for my son and notifies the doctors. Also, if a doctor recommends something that isn't beneficial to him and his health, then Jon will speak with the doctors to ensure that this is the best thing possible. Jon is E's primary nurse, which is a truly great thing for him. It allows my son to receive great, consistent, and reliable care. Jon knows my son's likes, dislikes, comforts, plan of care, quirks, and medications that work. This is especially important for my son and me since I work a full-time job. I call Jon in the morning to get updates on his night and plan of care for that day. Jon is always fully aware of his plan of care regarding fluid status, hemodialysis, and antibiotic therapy. Also, Jon will always call me with any major updates or if he needs any advice on my son's well-being. Jon has and will continue to go the extra mile for him. These are just a few a few of the reasons as to why Jon is an excellent nurse.
Jon makes a special connection with my son and my family in a multitude of ways. First and foremost, Jon treats him as if he was his own child. The way Jon cares, loves, and speaks up for him is incredible. He makes sure my son is in the best possible health and is endlessly advocating for him. Jon made my family and him feel extremely special recently. My son recently had his second birthday and with the help of Jon, we were able to have the whole family up to visit and celebrate his birthday. Jon made sure my son, my other children, and family were all comfortable and enjoying ourselves. We were able to take him and his ventilator on a road trip to a different room for his birthday. Jon truly makes us feel special and safe when he is taking care of him. I couldn't think of a better nurse to take care of my son.
Jon's calm demeanor makes it super comfortable and easy when being updated. Also, Jon never talks down to me when it comes to my questions or concerns. He cares about my concerns and takes them legitimately. He breaks down explaining complex processes and medical devices into very understandable lessons. Things such as hemodialysis and CRRT are very complex machines, but he explains the process so we can understand. He updates me on changes to hemodialysis, ventilator settings, and medications as well as to why they are making the changes. He truly cares and is invested in E's health and life.
It is impossible to name just one situation where Jon made our family feel comfortable. However, if I must choose just one thing that Jon does to make our family feel comfortable it would be his servant's heart. Jon's servant heart enables him to feel every ounce of worry, pain, and concern that we experience without letting those emotions affect his ability to do his job so miraculously, with such great selflessness and compassion. The skills to be a PICU nurse are those that cannot be taught through education. Jon's servant heart is a gift that I am certain he shares with all families' children for whom he cares for. His servant heart and compassion are a few things that truly make his care priceless and we are blessed beyond measure for Jon and all he does for our baby!
