Jon Paul (JP) is a consistently high performer and achiever. JP is always going above and beyond for his fellow colleagues by assisting not just his own patients in getting the quick proper care appropriate.
Just recently, JP received a patient from triage who had a rapid heart rate and shortness of breath with no diagnosed medical problems in the past. JP quickly assessed her and reported off to the primary RN and the physician. The physician ordered numerous tests but was unable to come up with the real cause of why this patient's heart rate was so significantly elevated. JP started thinking and researching some environmental and/or organic causes of these symptoms. He suggested some thyroid studies be ordered to rule out hyperthyroidism or thyroid storm. When the thyroid tests resulted, they were extremely elevated and the patient was then admitted with a diagnosis of thyroid storm. The patient was then able to quickly receive the proper care and medications she so greatly needed.
JP did not go around and boast about his "great catch", but instead stayed late, helped the oncoming day RN contact the physician for further orders and made sure the patient was settled and comfortable in the room. It was discovered that he had helped diagnose this patient when another RN told leadership in a passing conversation. JP is selfless in his work, cares greatly about his patients and colleagues, and is always praised by patients and families for his excellent care and compassion. He is always willing to come in and help the team when we are short and willing to jump in any situation/assignment without complaint. He applies evidence-based practice to all the care he provides and asks questions or researches answers when appropriate.
JP is truly a nurse who embodies what the nursing practice is all about. He strives to be better every day and applies his immense knowledge and great skill to provide the utmost compassionate nursing care. He is never one to participate in gossip, but instead leads conversations towards a positive direction reminding everyone the real reason why we are here- to provide excellent and compassionate patient care.
