Jomelyn has this capability of handling different areas assigned to her with self-control in the most critical phase of her duty. She is always calm and respectful to her subordinates and much-given attention to the patients, as well as the attendants. One day I visited the male area and actually not by intention. The attendant was asking the urinals for her father. After a few minutes, she went back to the attendant and found out that the patient was in the other unit but instead of asking questions she gave her the urinals. Jomelyn helps everyone, even if they are not her patients. For example, one day she was inserting a Foley catheter and she never even needed the physician to come inside.
She is now one of our charge nurses in the department. One day we saw her running bringing the bed sheet just to cover the patient going out of the unit. She told the staff please next time when you are moving a patient out of the area, even for x-ray, always provide privacy and cover the patient. Last Sunday she was the CN and I was actually surprised when I saw her feeding to the old poor baba with her two hands and slicing the oranges and giving milk to him. Then I realized this is the most beneficial care that a patient can have. She never argues with the patient attendant, one time I asked her, "why are you very soft for the patient relative or attendant?" She replied to me a smile and told me we never know what would happen to us and to our family so many times in my life it happens. I'm an attendant so I know the feelings of being empty for the information while my father or relative in the hospital sometimes I feel neglected of my rights.
I've got a chance to talk with her head nurse and based on her opinions, I need Ms. Jomelyn in my area. Her head nurse jokingly said not to take her away from her because she is such an asset. She said she admires her for being flexible, humble, and she never complains. She is extremely respectful in all situations. She will advocate for patients to all physicians.
One of her responsibility in every shift is to follow up with the admission of patients going to other units. Whenever she is informing the CN or the HN of the concerns she does so in such a professional manner.
Our Emergency Department is receiving more patients than what we are expecting from the daily range of census and her area of assignment is one of the most overcrowded and loaded. She is great at fast tracking and prioritizing the patients who are really in need. She has this capability of suggesting to the physician the best way to manage the patient when it comes to bed crisis in a nice humble manner.
She is always updated the policy and working or guided as per our KSMC policy. I've witnessed her explaining to the colleague that this is what the policy says. She does this in a constructive and non-argumentative manner.
For all of these reasons, Jomelyn is a true DAISY Nurse.
