John Seeburger was nominated by a patient's wife. She wrote a very long letter and submitted pictures to document her husbands' amazing journey while in our care at UMHS. Here is his nomination story:

On August 25th my husband entered UMHS with end stage CHF. He had weeping blisters on his legs requiring extensive wound care. John was "divinely assigned to be his caregiver". We received exemplary care as John went above and beyond his duties as a nurse. He patiently educated us about the continuous, daily process of caring for my husband's legs. The weeping blisters drained and spilled down his legs requiring us to change his soaked socks every 30 minutes for weeks. John's wound care expertise proved to be the beginning of the healing process, however John's excellent ability to soothe my shock and fear also allowed me to cope as I witnessed all of this.

We are very happy to report that by the end of September both legs were healed enough to allow him to undergo the major surgery of LVAD placement. The continued excellent care of my husband after he left 7C has allowed him to once again be included on the transplant list! We know beyond a shadow of a doubt that John's care helped pave the way for this! We request that John be honored with the DAISY Award on behalf of my very much alive husband! Thank you!
