John McManus volunteered to do on-call in Hudson County for his team b65. The extended hours manager asked him to see two patients in Essex County because she could not reach the on-call nurse for Essex that day. John agreed to see the patients without hesitation. One of the patients was a patient with a wound vac.
John received another call on that same day from one of our physical therapists who asked him if he could see a patient in Jersey City for an admission. The patient was assigned to an RN early during the day, but the RN was unable to contact the patient. The RN returned the soc visit without informing the therapist. The therapist made his visit and found out from the patient that the nursing eval was not done and the patient really needed the RN visit due to the patient's condition. The therapist and the extended hours supervisor asked John to see the patient so that the agency does not lose the PT admission and to prevent re-hospitalization. John accepted both assignments even though he was only on call to cover Hudson County.
John is readily available to take those late minute visits that no one wants to see and also helps his team when needed. I would like to nominate John McManus to receive a DAISY Award for his willingness to help this agency, his coworkers and our patients.
