I was hospitalized at your facility and tested positive for COVID-19. I started in the ER- transferred to 3N, then ICU, and eventually landed on 4N. Because of the current situation with Coronavirus, no visitors are allowed, so my contact with family was limited to daily phone calls.
Along with being ill, I was isolated, lonely, and scared. Until I met my RN, John Ballew.
John would take time out of his busy schedule to check on me daily. Unprompted, John would sit with me and talk about whatever subject that would come up.
He eased my fears about COVID-19 and dying. He took my loneliness away even if it was for a short time. He listened to my concerns and helped me rationalize and work through them.
John held my hand when needed, took time to explain what was happening "dumbing" down the medical jargon to language I could understand.
John was my cheerleader and I am grateful for that! He is the epitome of what nursing and healthcare should be!!
John is kind, compassionate, and caring and a patient advocate and deserves to be recognized and honored for these characteristics! Not too many people have these qualities anymore.
Thank you, John, for being a "friend", my cheerleader and advocate during my illness.
Thank you for easing my fears, calming the storm inside of my brain, explaining things so I could understand, holding my hand, sitting for a chat about whatever subject came up. There are really no words to express my gratitude to John, except Thank You!
