We had a 7-month-old patient brought in unresponsive to Emergi-kids. The nurses in Emergi-kids were wonderful as they worked on this young life. At the time it was unknown what happened to the baby to cause such injuries. The patient was transferred to PICU where Charge Nurse Joanne took over the baby's care. The baby was in critical condition as her situation was very serious. Joanne had already worked her day shift and was about to get off soon but her main concern was hoping to save the baby's life. Joanne, while keeping a close watch on what was going on with the baby, also calmly and patiently directed her staff, talked with the doctors, and gave comfort wherever it was needed. Hours later, when I left the PICU, Joanne was still tirelessly monitoring the baby's condition.
The next day when I came to work I went to see how the baby was doing. Joanne was there and I found out she had not gone home but continued to monitor the baby all night. I was profoundly touched by Joanne's dedication to our Values and her exceptional care and concern and I feel her leadership along with her staff was crucial to this baby's life.
Joanne went above and beyond her responsibilities. She is a respected charge nurse and is dedicated to our Values.
