My son had a motorcycle accident and was really shaken up. He was experiencing some short-term memory loss. He is twenty-one years old and just started nursing school. He was really concerned about how this was going to impact his school, which he worked so hard at getting accepted.
Jo Ellen was very compassionate and empathetic with my son. She didn't just focus on all the physical stuff he was dealing with, but she took the time to really listen to his concerns and took this opportunity to help him see this difficult time he was going through in a positive light.
She talked to him about nursing and shared her own story of how she was hospitalized during nursing school and talked to my son about looking at this experience as a lesson in life and something that will help him become a better nurse by focusing on what it is like to be a patient.
She also took the time to explain the procedures and the reasoning behind them. She taught him about the room environment and how it contributed to his safety. She was very patient through all of his questions and really made us feel like she really cared about his wellbeing, and what is important to him - Nursing School! She was a great mentor that left an impact on him.
