Prior to her sad and early death, Jill was a long tenured nurse at Sequoia Hospital. She brought joy, hope and humor to her patients every day. Sequoia receives many letters from patients telling of their positive experiences at the hospital and the people who impacted them. Jill was mentioned in many of these letters throughout the day.
She started her career in the ICU and retired from the Infusion center. But whatever department she worked, her patients came first. Her caring and compassion for her patients was easily seen by all who interacted with her. She had a great sense of humor and willingness for the occasional adventure. Early in her career, she became her neighborhood nurse often responding to various injuries and illnesses no matter the time of day. Despite working many years of nights, her children remember fondly that she was there to see them off to school and there to pick them up.
There were many patients over her career that stayed with Jill after completing their treatments because of her ability to connect personally and the amazing care she took of them. One specific patient who comes for regular infusions still talks about how Jill made her feel so at ease during the first infusion. During her first visit, she was very nervous but Jill took the time to talk to her and put her at ease before she started her treatments. I think the greatest testament to her caring and kindness is that at her celebrations of life there were not only friends, family and co-workers but former patients came as a final thank you to Jill for all her wonderful care.
