Jill Bunn, RN ~ 2 Center

Often nurses are present at life changing moments for our patients. Sometimes they are moments of great joy, and at other times, often great loss. One of our associates shared her recent experience with us:

“I am an associate with the St. John Providence Health System. I wanted to share with you an experience that I had at St. John Macomb Hospital. I had come in to the ER at Macomb with severe pelvic pain. Since I was pregnant, they transferred me to Labor and Delivery Triage Unit. From the start, the nurses/doctors were wonderful. Unfortunately, I had delivered my 15 week fetus and was totally devastated. They immediately had a room for me where I was able to grieve and heal. Jill Bunn was assigned to my care and she never left my side. She would sit and cry with me while I vented about the loss of my son or even complaining of the pain I was in. Even when she was done for the day, she made sure to come in to hug me and to say goodbye. I knew that I would receive good care, but I NEVER thought that I would receive the care that I got. Jill showed compassion, integrity, and loyalty. Even though all of my nurses were great, Jill has made an impact on my life. One of my other nurses mentioned nominating Jill for the DAISY Award and I would like to do so. She will always have a special place in my heart.”

Jill was surprised with her DAISY Award by her Clinical Nurse Manager, Jennifer Gregson, RN, and Director, Linda Zagacki, RN. This was the first DAISY Award presented to a nurse on the OB Unit. Jill’s co-worker, Nora Comber, was also nominated this month by one of her patients, who shared, “Nora was never far away. She answered all questions and was friendly. She was very concerned with me because my grandmother had a stroke and became a patient on the 7th floor on the same day my daughter was born. Out of all of the staff we had around, she was the only one who seemed like she truly cared.”

Jill and Nora’s co-workers were happy to share in their celebration and were touched by the stories of how these extraordinary nurses touched patient’s lives.
