Jessica Roy, RN on 6 Tower at Oakland Center was honored recently with a DAISY Award. A patient of Jessica’s sent in the following nomination, “Jessica took care of me on four different occasions. She was so caring and helpful. She took the time to really listen to my needs and was always there with a cheerful smile, and a cheerful smile goes a long way towards making a person feel better. She has a really big heart and is full of love and it is apparent that she puts all of that into her work. She takes the time to fully care of the whole person, not just the physical needs, but also the mental/emotional needs of her patients. In addition to taking care of the obvious needs for things like medications, vitals, etc., she sees that there is much more that goes into healing a person. She obviously knows that the mind and heart can be powerful tools in healing, and she looks for creative ways to utilize them. During my stay, I became very depressed about being in the hospital and not being able to go outside. I was tired of walking “around the block” and feeling very trapped. Because I was not able to go outside alone, Jessica immediately offered to take me outside. Her taking the time to do this made a huge difference in my mental and emotional outlook on things. Just being outside and being reminded of how beautiful God made our world made a difference, but being shown how “beautiful” God made Jessica made a bigger difference. From overheard conversations, I knew that she had to step away from her other duties and postpone her lunch, and yet she was so willing and happy to do this for me. As I said, she really took the time to listen to my needs and then found a solution to the problem. She was really a blessing from God while I was there, and I am certain that she has been and will continue to be a blessing to others as well.”
