I have worked with Jessica for a couple of years now and each time she works she goes above and beyond for her patients and her patient's families. Jessica admitted a 14-year-old ATV rollover trauma patient. The patient came in intubated with severe spinal trauma that ultimately will leave him paralyzed from the waist down. Throughout the weekend the patient was lightly sedated and stated that he was very scared and just wanted someone in his room with him. Jessica pulled up a computer on wheels and sat next to his bedside all night. She held his hand, talked to him, and reassured him that everything was going to be okay. After he went to the OR and was eventually extubated he remained scared. Jessica continued to sit at his bedside holding his hand and comforting him. After being told that he could only have ice chips, Jess soaked his ice chips in Gatorade (the only thing that he wanted) so that they had some taste to them. Throughout the weekend she spent most of her shift holding her patient's hand and comforting him through probably the most difficult time of his life. She also answered all the family member's questions while comforting them as well. I was very impressed by the way Jessica scarified her personal needs to go above and beyond in comforting her patient.
