Jenny has a very relaxed nursing style. As we talked, I learned she has been a nurse for 28 years. She loves the Rehab Unit and really enjoys her job. She is very caring and compassionate. She explained my medications to me before she gave them and that was very comforting to be able to understand. She noticed a medication was missing from the discharge medication list and reached out to the doctor on my behalf. I am very blessed to have been Jenny's patient. She made my stay very comfortable.

Jenny Spalding is knowledgeable, experienced and versatile. First of all, she functions as the day shift team leader on the MVH inpatient rehab unit. She is the one who sets up the staff for success in their 24-hour workflow. She mentors other team leaders to help them be more effective in their roles. Physicians and therapists specifically seek her out to troubleshoot or service recover patient and family issues. She is the key individual for successful admissions to the rehab unit as she collaborates with the admissions coordinator, therapy managers, case managers, and other units. She is not only a team player with her peers on the unit; but also to those from other units. I had a manager comment that when this team leader comes to bed briefing, she never complains and will often suggest ideas for meeting staffing needs. This same manager also commented that she is a true advocate for the rehab unit. She utilizes Crucial Conversation principles to solve issues. Her peers may not realize how often she really stands up for them.
Jenny is dedicated to making sure that our patients receive the highest quality care. One way she does this is her diligence and participation on the SWAT team. She and one of her co-workers are responsible for completing and following up with the pressure and wound incidence. She goes beyond the borders of the rehab unit through her professional commitment and participation in the local Association of Rehab Nurses. She is a frequent presenter and acquires knowledge to share with her peers. Jenny also serves as a co-facilitator for the Montgomery County Stroke group that meets monthly at MVH.
Jenny precepts and mentors new staff and students. She is dedicated to making sure nurses receive the recognition they deserve by being a part of the Premier Nurse Recognition and Recruitment/Retention committees. She never expects recognition for herself. Jenny truly deserves a major pat on the back for all she does for everyone. She exemplifies a DAISY Nurse as she provides extraordinary care and compassion every day!
