Each time I arrive at an ER I am always skeptical of the care I will receive. As I am an MRSA patient and most nurses are nervous acting or just do enough to get by for my treatment. Upon arriving I was in some pain, was worried to death as my blood sugar was over 500; I had a huge diabetic abscess, I was just miserable. I checked in and to my surprise, a very sweet, caring nurse called my name and took me back. I asked her if it was time for her to leave or if she was just coming on. Of course, it was shift change and she was getting ready to leave. But, never once during this time did Jennifer seem rushed, tired or just plain out ready to pass me off.
Jennifer took her time, assured me that I was going to be okay, explained why I had to have 2 IVs. I told her how much I hated those things. We talked as if I had known her my entire life. She got both of the lines in during that time with no problems, got my vitals, got me totally settled, brought the shift change in and reassured me that she would do everything she just as well.
Jennifer then went to do her end of shift things. Before leaving to go home she came back in and asked if I was ok or if there was anything else she could do? Jennifer showed so much care and compassion. She is confident in her role, knowledgeable, and seems to actually care about her patients. It amazes me that even though it was time for her to leave after those 12 long hours she still stayed and cared for me as if she was just coming on shift. NCMH is blessed to have her. Thank you, Jennifer, for the exceptional care you gave me.
