Our son was born at 35 weeks gestation in Danbury Hospital. At one week old we were called in the middle of the night to say he was being transferred to CCMC because of a suspicion and treatment for NEC (necrotizing enterocolitis). Needless to say this was an extremely scary time and we were worried for our son´s future. One of the first nurses we had care for our son was Jenny. Jenny's professional, careful and friendly manner made her stand out as an extraordinary nurse in our hearts, As we experienced our second NICU in two weeks we met countless numbers of nurses, doctors and other caregivers, she truly exceeded our expectations each interaction we shared with her and the care she provided our son was exemplary to say the least. Because of the trust we felt in her we spoke with the nurse manager to assign Jenny to our son´s care whenever possible. We live over an hour away from CCMC so we practically lived in the hospital as it was too time-consuming and expensive to drive back and forth regularly. The days that she was assigned to care for our son we were comfortable leaving his bedside, to return home or simply to enjoy a meal as parents off the unit. These moments were imperative to our NICU journey and for that we are forever grateful! After our four weeks at CCMC we were transferred to Yale (PICU) for further medical care and returned to CCMC (MS6) for further medical before completing our journey! As we were being discharged from CCMC after 62 days of intensive medical care (and our son's first time coming home) we reflected upon our medical journey and Jenny still stood out in our minds and hearts as a most deserving nurse for this award.
