My daughter was born at Banner University Medical Center - Phoenix. She is our first child and in being so, represents the first time I have ever seen my own flesh-and-blood. (I was adopted and until her birth, had never met a biological family member.) Naturally, my adopted family, wife, and I were beyond words during the anticipation of her birth. In a blessed and apropos fashion, our daughter arrived on Father's Day.
Unfortunately, my wife had an eventful C-section and shortly after her birth, fell ill with severe postpartum preeclampsia and pulmonary edema. The moment I waited 40+ years for, had suddenly become a moment of concern and fear. Fortunately for our family, Jenn Greer demonstrated excellence through her clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. She represented the Banner nursing community in a way my family will never forget. I recall Jenn being on her knees assisting my wife in the restroom, checking in with us constantly, and even caring for our daughter so my wife could rest. Yet most importantly, when my wife's condition deteriorated to a point of critical concern, Jenn knew to call rapid response. While we were in the progressive care unit, Jenn came to visit on her break, offered to bring us a meal, and even visited our daughter in the nursery (providing us periodic updates).
My wife described her experience with Jenn like this, "She was a ray of sunshine when she walked in the room; she laughed with me; she cried with me. Our story at Banner will forever leave an imprint on our hearts. Jenn gave of herself. She cared for me as my own mother would. As we suffered from physical and emotional exhaustion, she became our rock. Because of Jenn, we found the beauty in humanity amid a time that tried our souls." After 7 days, we left Banner with grateful hearts. We were ready to start our newest and most exciting chapter and we were forever grateful for our angel, Jenn.
