I would like to nominate”Nurse Jeff” from the ER for the DAISY Award because he went way beyond the call of duty. On Sat. Feb 12th I was a patient in your ER, where I received nothing short of excellent care from Jeff. Over the years I have had numerous hospital experiences (including major surgery in Johns Hopkins Hospital), and his genuine compassion, cheerful disposition, and clinical expertise was the best I had ever received.

I arrived by ambulance to the ER after experiencing a medical emergency on HWY 26. Traveling alone, and miles away from home, I became hypocalcemic and needed immediate medical care. He was very patient; listening to everything I had to say, and responded accordingly. One of my concerns was returning to my car before dark. Even though the ER was extremely busy, he still managed to discharge me in a timely manner, so I could pick up my car before the sun went down.

Needless to say I was scared because of not only my medical condition, but how was I going to get back to my car parked at a Lil Cricket store 10 miles back in an unfamiliar area. Jeff put my mind at ease during my discharge when he pointed me toward someone who would be able to call me a cab. Unfortunately, there was no cab available, and I was stranded at RMC. As I mentioned I was miles away from home, traveling alone, and didn’t have a clue as to where I was. When Jeff completed his shift, he saw I was still in the ER, and he offered to drive me to my car.

He is truly an angel. I’m sure Jeff was very tired after having just completed a very busy 12 hour shift, lived in the opposite direction from where my car was parked (I know it took him at least 20 miles out of his way) and yet out of the goodness of his heart, he drove me back to the car so I could continue my trip home. This is what I call going beyond the call of duty; an act of kindness I’ll never forget. Two hours later, I arrived home safe & sound, and since then haven’t stopped telling my story to family and friends about my pleasant experience at RMC, and the incredible “Nurse Jeff”, and his wonderful act of kindness.
