Jeena Kuriakose is one of our charge nurses at HVI Telemetry. She has been with Memorial Hermann Healthcare System for almost 20 years. She is an excellent nurse. She works well with a multicultural staff. And collaborates well with other members of the healthcare team. She is very knowledgeable and acts well with critical thinking.
A few months back, I stayed over on the floor to help. As a discharge nurse, I usually go home at 5 pm. One day, the floor was so busy that I stayed over until 7 pm to help, that's when I got to see more of Jeena in action because she usually works the night shift. That day, one of the nurses had an admission who was in respiratory distress and she was just coming in to start her night shift as a charge nurse but immediately went into action. Jeena was in the patient's room right away helping the primary nurse and with her thorough assessment skills an RRT was called and the patient was transferred to the ICU in a timely manner. A code blue was avoided because of her fast actions and critical thinking. She even helped push the bed with the patient to the ICU. As a charge nurse, she doesn't just give orders, she also does the actions!
I frequently see Jeena during my shift. Every time I ask her why she's still in the hospital at that time of day (because she works night shift) she always tells me she attended a meeting. She is involved in a lot of hospital-based and unit-based committees so she's frequently seen in the hospital even on her days-off. Sometimes I even tease her that maybe she lives in the hospital because she's always there. She always wants the best for our patients and staff. She's always working hard so our patients get the best care and our staff is well prepared to provide excellent care. She actively involves herself in different committees. To my best knowledge, she's involved in the NCC, PNAP, skin committee, Pharmacy, HCAHPS, etc. I think Jeena deserves the DAISY Award!
