Jeanette Janvrin, Labor & Delivery
My wife and I entered the delivery/labor unit the night of 2/4/10 at approx. 8:30pm. Unknown to us, my wife was in active labor and subsequently admitted. Prior to her epidural, my wife was experiencing contractions and pain that made me feel helpless and inadequate. Our soon to be child was 5 weeks and 2 days too early and my wife and I had yet to go to any birthing classes. Needless to say we felt lost and clueless. These feelings of helplessness, cluelessness, and being lost all changed once our nurse (Jeanette) introduced herself. Not one second past before Jeanette immediately saved my wife from lack of knowing what to say or do during her contractions. She then gave us a crash course on breathing and what to expect. This might seem like a task every nurse does but with our lack of knowledge, it truly became a birthing seminar (with a million questions in between). During the actual delivery, Jeanette was in my eyes the one who delivered our son. She did an incredible job at explaining everything that was going on and why. She told us what to expect and just kept us aware and informed. With all this being said, I'm sure any other nurse might have done the same thing because "it's their job." However, Jeanette managed to do this with humor, compassion, and care. She made us feel like we were her first and last birth/patients. We will forever be thankful for the part she played and a life changing moment. Thank you Jeanette.
