Jay said he had some extra time that night so he sat with me in my room and we talked about ordinary things. It really helped me get through that night.
I was in the hospital for ten days and Jay was the assigned RN to my room for one of those days, plus part of two evening shifts. Jay's enthusiasm for his profession was immediately noticeable. He had a lot of energy and I soon discovered that he was working extra hours to help cover extra shifts. Jay explained to me that he believed it was important to talk with patients on the same level, literally - since I was in a bed or a chair, he would pull up a chair next to me and sit down before explaining anything or telling me what procedure he might be doing. The first evening Jay was assigned to my room, I had just received a lot of bad news about my health condition. I was pretty depressed. Jay said he had some extra time that night so he sat with me in my room and we talked about ordinary things. It really helped me get through that night. Thank you, Jay, for your enthusiasm, professionalism, and kindness.
