My husband was a patient on the unit prior to his CABG for 2 nights and then post-op for 4 nights. Jasmine was present pre and post, not always assigned to his care but involved. Pre-operatively she calmed us by answering all of our questions. She taught us about medications and the importance of nitroglycerine, and not to be afraid to take it to help ease my husband's chest discomfort. Jasmine asked all the right questions to get through to my husband and alleviate his fears. She talked to us about post-op days and what to expect. My husband reacted dramatically to narcotics (psychosis). Jasmine stayed at his bedside past her shift to calm him and support him prior to his falling asleep. She called me at home to explain his current situation. I was scared, but she reassured me.
One evening Jasmine was in charge and she stopped by several times to make sure our needs were being met by her staff, they were! Jasmine also encouraged my husband to eat and taught him the importance of nutrition and healing. Jasmine directed all her attention to my husband and cared for him with love and respect. Her knowledge of cardiac nursing was impressive. I cannot say enough about her. I will always be grateful to Jasmine and the PCU staff for the professional, loving care they gave my husband.
