My wife, at the age of 37, peacefully passed away after courageously battling lung cancer for four years. She spent the last month of her early life at Banner UMC. We met a lot of amazing people during our journey, and our month at UMC was not an exception. One of those was January Coventry.
While January spent only 12 hours with my wife and our family, she has had a lasting impact on our lives. My wife was entering the last hours of her life when January started her shift. She came into the room and comforted my wife and provided for her every need. She then turned her attention to our children, age 8 and age 7. They were saying their "goodbyes" and "we'll see you again." January talked to our children like a nurturing mother. She eased some of the pain we were all experiencing that day. She cared for everyone in the room including my wife's mom and dad, who were losing their eldest child.
January shared some of her life story with us, and we became friends in a short amount of time. January and her husband even attended a pre-planned fundraising walk in honor of my wife the evening after my wife passed away.
A few months later, my children and I attended an event where January's husband was performing. January was doing her job, however, in our eyes, she went above and beyond the calling of a nurse. From all my wife's family, we can never thank you enough. January, you will always have a special place in our hearts.
