My father had never been sick a day in his life, but about a week ago he found himself in the ICU following complications from an accident and then hip surgery. It was the most terrifying experience of my life. Janice Dennis was kind and compassionate, which means more than I realized to families in our circumstance. She took the time to answer my family's many, and I am sure, repeated questions without frustration and with unfailing patience. She took an extra moment to move his bed rail so I could hold his hand more easily. She gave him time to do as much as possible for himself, although it would have been easier for her to intervene and do it herself. And, finally, in all honesty, I attribute his still being here with us to her. When his heart rate became dangerously high, it was Janice who so quickly began to take measures to prevent cardiac arrest. My family is forever grateful for her kindness.
