If there was someone that the Heart and Kidney unit could not live without, it would be Jan Robison. Jan is our Unit Case Manager. She goes above and beyond every day she is at work to ensure the needs of our patients and families are met. Jan is always working after hours to make sure everything has been taken care of with our patient population, including special resources and medications they require. Jan compiled a "discharge binder" as a resource for our charge nurses to use on nights and weekends. She does not leave until she feels confident that all loose ends have been tied. It is normal to find Jan on the unit after 9PM on a Friday so that she can make sure all the patients will be taken care of if discharged over the weekend.

To say that Jan is extraordinary is an understatement. Jan makes the Heart and Kidney unit function at a much higher level when she has to cover patients on other units. She is complimented all the time by the nursing staff on doing such an excellent job. Jan is known for pulling off the "impossible" to facilitate discharge needs and resources, when in a bind. Jan's work does not go unnoticed on Heart and Kidney and throughout other inpatient units at Children's National. There truly isn't a candidate more deserving of this DAISY Award.
