I believe that Janet Dyer should be recognized for her exemplary action that shows her compassion, caring and love for another human being while performing her job as a nurse at Metro Health.
One day Janet had a patient who had a fractured leg and needed surgery. The patient lived alone and had no family. He also had some signs of dementia. The patient left AMA due to the fact that he had two cats named "Momma and baby" that he was very worried about and had no one to care for them while he would be in the hospital and rehab.
The next day, Janet happened to see that the patient returned to the hospital and went in to talk with him. After talking with the patient, Janet gave her word that she would take care of his cats if he would stay and have the surgery he needed. The cats were living in deplorable conditions. The next day she took the cat to the vet and found his blood sugar was 700 and he was diagnosed with diabetes. In a few days, Janet was able to rescue the other cat, who she also took to the vet. She has now taken under her wing that patient's only family he had and is taking care of them until he hopefully gets out of rehab. There is a good chance he may not be able to return to his home, but Janet is keeping him updated with pictures of his "family" while he is recuperating.
Janet has gone above and beyond by showing what a caring, compassionate nurse and person she is. During these hectic times of nursing today, Janet has still been able to keep the holistic part of nursing in her practice. This is what nursing is and should be all about. What an example this should be to all the nurses here at Metro!
