Jamie Vitale consistently steps up to the plate for whatever is needed. It might be a shift when we are busy in ICU OR SDU, management can text her and she will come in-no questions asked. Jamie shows up with a smile on her face, a can-do attitude and asks, "What can I do to help?"
Jamie took over as the fill in for 3200/3300/MT UBT co-lead, without even having to ask her. She sees the need and volunteers to fill the void. Jamie collaborated on the Hospital Wide Lift tech project, coming in on night shift so she could shadow the lift team and observe how nursing worked with the lift team. She is always observing and then making suggestions for change when she sees the need.
Jamie is an outstanding SDU charge nurse, she knows where her equipment is, and she knows how to lead a team in an emergency. Jamie can quickly evaluate a patient who may need a higher level of care, and at the same time, she will collaborate with ICU charge, Intensivists and hospitalists to ensure her patient gets what they need-even if it requires more work on her end, like intubation in the SDU, emergency transport to higher level of care, CT scan before transferring to ICU, etc.
Jamie knows the meaning of patient centered care and consistently demonstrates this in her daily nursing care. She actively collaborates with discharge planning and escalates issues
appropriately when necessary. She is reliable to provide updates on patients, always aware of the discharge plan and able to articulate the plan of care to the healthcare team
Jamie is proactive with SDU rounds, she ensures the ISD team physicians are present when rounds are done. If they can't make it to the unit, Jamie gets them on a conference call to facilitate collaboration with Intensivists/ID/IP/and other healthcare team members.
We are proud to present this DAISY Award to Jamie. Congratulations!
