Jadira Amill has been a psychiatric nurse at Jersey City Medical Center for the past eight years. Jadira started at Jersey City Medical Center in June 2003 as part of the Earn & Learn program. Since then, she has had many accomplishments. Jadira joined the clinical ladder program and is now a clinical ladder III. The clinical ladder program is a point-based system that rewards staff nurses for excellence in practice that embodies the institution's mission, vision, and magnet philosophy. Members of this program are active in professional organizations and use evidence based practice to improve processes on the unit and institutional levels. She obtained certification in psych-mental health nursing and was the first nurse to win Employee of the Month since the awards commencement. In addition, this past January, Jadira obtained her master’s degree in mental health nursing.
In October 2010, she was nominated and won the DAISY Award. Jersey City Medical Center has chosen to recognize and honor its nurses with the DAISY Award. The DAISY Award was founded by the Barnes family, which recognizes extraordinary nurses. Jersey City Medical Center’s Quality and Safety Nursing Council established nomination criteria based on quality, safety, and evidence of nurses connecting with their patients. The Quality and Safety Nursing Council selected Jadira, amongst 20 nominees, as their first DAISY Award recipient.
Jadira exemplifies dedication and devotion to her patients by staying true to Jersey City Medical Center’s values of trust, accountability, communication, excellence, and teamwork. An excerpt from her nomination reads, “She has gone out of her way to care for her patients. She has broken through patient resistance and even a language barrier to deliver excellent care. She has taught the patient basic English phrases to help him communicate with other patients and staff.” Her colleagues are proud to state that Jadira Amill is a true asset to the behavioral heath team since the very beginning.
