Jackie received us as our daughter's nurse on our first day (out of 5) on the unit. She was professional and competent yet has one of the best bedside manners that we have ever seen. Her care for our daughter clearly went deeper than "her job" and it was clear that she was genuinely concerned for her wellbeing as well as the wellbeing of the family. Talking with one of the other nurses, we mentioned our connection with Jackie and one of the other nurses said that she is incredible and so good at what she does. It was affirming to hear that her reputation is so strong even behind the scenes among her peers. When we brought our kids to the hospital the first time, she connected with our daughter's siblings quickly and made them feel welcome in spite of incoming nerves about coming to the hospital. When we made a return visit the next day, I asked the kids if they were excited to see Mom and Sister and they enthusiastically replied, "Yea, and Jackie!" While our stay was longer than hoped, that allowed us to have Jackie again on our last day which was an encouragement to our daughter as a consolation for the long stay and a great way to finish our time here.
