Jackie Heath always voluntarily signs up to be the primary nurse on long term, difficult ICU patients. She took care of a patient that was in the ICU for 6 months and was ventilator dependent. Jackie would plan and coordinate the care even before her day off. She would bring in his favorite food (pie) when he was tired of hospital food. She visited with the patient even when he was transferred to the step-down unit. With all her patients, Jackie is instrumental in passing on what previous physician teams have done, correct information, clear up inconsistencies and follow through on existing patient care issues. She is the go-between the family and the medical staff and does a great job representing the family’s wishes.
