This has been a journey none of us had ever expected or envisioned for our nursing careers. COVID-19 is most likely one of the biggest challenges we will ever navigate. It has been an honor and privilege to stand alongside you as we deal with this on a day-to-day basis.
The CICU RNs have graciously opened the doors of their Cardiac Care Unit for COVID patients who desperately need their care. They have selflessly moved into the ICU to care for all patient populations, including the neuro patients, but most definitely sharing their Cardiac expertise with their ICU peers.
The ICU RNs have been flexible in supporting the CICU RNs in caring for the COVID population. They have opened the ICU doors to a mixture of patients, deferring to the expertise of the CICU RNs while continuously enforcing "passion" towards neuro patients.
For the RNs who deployed, their unwavering commitment to these individuals humbles me and fills me with overwhelming pride. Their dedication to our facility and their willingness to venture out to our sister facilities during this unprecedented time of uncertainty is beyond description.
This has been an unprecedented endeavor by those who have deployed and also by the critical care team that remains in place to care for our local community. The steadfastness and bravery of this family of critical care nurses leaves me speechless. We really are living and working in a historic moment in time that you and your grandkids will someday talk about. To be known as the greatest generation we must choose how we will respond to a crisis. You all have done so with grace and people will sing your praises for generations. You are the HEROS.
