Howard King is an RN on the Orthopedic unit at Physicians Regional Medical Center (formerly Mercy Medical Center, St. Mary’s). Howard attended and graduated from LMU in Tennessee in 2005. He began his employment at PRMC in 2005 on the orthopedic unit and has been there his entire career.
Howard was nominated for a number of reasons:
Howard’s co-workers are very appreciative of his skills and helpfulness. He assists them in any way he can and remains upbeat and positive. Student nurses love to work with Howard! He shows them various procedures and explains everything in detail. Besides being very knowledgeable and skilled, Howard is compassionate and caring to all. Howard receives many compliments from his patients. One of the more remarkable ones occurred recently when one of his former patients returned to visit Howard and to “thank him for saving his life.” He truly believed that Howard was the reason he was still alive and he wanted Howard to know of his true appreciation.
Another patient commented that she felt safe under his care. She was particularly reassured when Howard explained an upcoming dressing change in detail and in words she could understand which alleviated all of her fear of this procedure. She truly felt involved in her care since he included her in the plan of care for the day.
Howard is a truly deserving recipient of The DAISY Award. He consistently displays a positive attitude, is a true team player, and is very passionate about nursing.
