Honey Dawn was called to do a favor for one of the ICU staff members by notarizing a power of attorney form for one of their patients. She met with the patient and his fiancée and immediately had a bond with them. The patient and his fiancée wanted to get married and he (the patient) was being discharged on Friday. She contacted the probate court and asked one of the judges to come to the ICU to have the patient and his fiancée sign since he was unable to leave the hospital. She asked chaplaincy to perform a ceremony once the license was official.
The groom requested that someone was there to take pictures. A team member from the Marketing Department attended and took pictures of the ceremony. The groom also wanted the ceremony and marriage announced in the paper with a picture. The bride provided Honey Dawn with a picture of them prior to the groom's illness. Having this picture in the newspaper was not enough for Honey Dawn; she sent the picture in and had a canvas printed overnight.
She wanted the groom to feel like he had done something special for his new bride, so Honey Dawn got him a new dress shirt. She had it altered so that he would be able to stay connected to medications and current treatment. Honey Dawn coordinated efforts to have rings for the ceremony. The groom was unable to eat, but he wanted his wife to have a wedding cake. Other team members had connections to provide a cake, a bouquet, and a boutonniere for the ceremony. The ceremony took place in the ICU. Several team members and family members were there to witness their marriage.
Honey Dawn is a wonderful caregiver that does more than what is required on a daily basis; the love and compassion that she showed to this couple was extraordinary. Honey Dawn was able to give this man and woman a moment in their lives that they would never forget. It would not have been possible without her dedication and planning.
