My mom is 90-years old and has dementia. She was brought from the nursing home to ER because she had some type of seizure and was unaware for a time. They called me and when I got there, she was already in the exam room and Heather was with her. My mom will answer if you speak with her. But she is basically in her own little world. She is very kind and meek, so you could probably do whatever to her and she would be helpless. She does not have much control of her legs so she has to rely on others. They ordered blood work, urine specimen and she was bleeding. We were unsure of what was going on so it was very stressful time. After all, her legs won't bend properly and they hurt when you touch them. So Heather had to change her diaper and clean up the bowel movement and blood and was having to catheterize her. This was so traumatic for Mom. But Heather worked through all of these procedures and kept my mom safe. This is so important to her state of mind. She cleaned mom up with warm washcloths and got her settled and got her smiling through the entire ordeal. She was so kind to us and went above and beyond her job to help Mom feel at ease. While taking all of her tests and the procedures she was professional but also compassionate and thoughtful. We were there for hours and she was there the whole time making our critical experience easier. She was the nurse, healer, protector and instrumental in helping Mom work through this confusing time. Mom is like a child and is confused but Heather was such a blessing.
