Heather's clinical skills, precepting/mentor abilities, and how she advocates for her patients are what make her a true DAISY Nurse. Recently, a patient who has been in the ICU for 40+ days was acting a little more depressed (Heather noticed). Heather asked the patient what she could do for her. The patient worded "friends" since the patient was trached and non-verbal. Heather took the time to sit with the patient and helped her spell out her friend's names. The patient did not know their numbers and no names were on the chart. Heather started to ask the patient where she knew them from, a club of some sort? She shook head no. A church? The patient expectedly shook her head yes! Heather then got the name of the church and she looked it up online. She found the number and name of the pastor. She immediately called the number and the pastor picked up. All the stars aligned when she asked if he knew her or one of the friends. It turns out one of the friends was the pastor's daughter! She got the friend's number and called her. Apparently, her church group didn't know what happened to her and were looking for her for weeks! She came in the next shift to see her. Go Heather!
