Hanna has gone above and beyond the call of duty every day for her patients and their families because she has to. She is compelled to. She truly doesn't know how to do it any other way.

She treated my grandmother as if she were her own, and was always very comforting during that trying time to my family and me. I am sure you will all agree it's not easy being nice to the granddaughter of a patient in the ICU who is also an ICU nurse. She was always professional and caring no matter how stressed I was. She truly had the patience of Job with me.
For the last 4 years working beside Hanna in Convenient Care, her passion to give and nurture all of her patients and their families has been unwavering. I watched her give every patient and family member her full attention every day all day with a genuine smile, concern, and empathy. She never wavered. Not once. I listened to her on the phone beside me and heard the concern, and eagerness to help in any way possible, even while people were yelling at her. She never wavered, not once.
What makes this story even more amazing is for the past year she endured a devastating battle with cancer. Her husband has been very ill and she recently lost her daughter in law. She continued to work her shifts with dignity, pride, love, and her usual passion for her work. The patients and their families were always first. She never wavered, not once.
Since I received the DAISY Award I have always felt in my heart that Hanna is extremely deserving of this award. I always said to myself after working a shift with her, I really need to nominate her. I never took the time.
Hanna resigned from her position at Carle to focus on her family due to her failing health. At that time, I began composing this nomination letter. I felt time was of the essence. Unfortunately, Hanna passed away at home just a few days ago. I hope my procrastination will not be an obstacle for her to win this awesome award. She is and was most deserving.
Life is so short. We are reminded of that daily. I cannot let one more day go by without sending this letter to nominate Hanna Hobbs for the DAISY award.
She was absolutely one of the most caring nurses I have ever met. I know every life she touched is saddened yet positively touched by this loss whether a patient, family member, or peer. She was truly a gift to our profession. It was an honor to work beside her.
