My wife, A, was admitted and she had many problems. She was in the ICU for 14 days when she died. The care A received from everyone was outstanding. They really cared about her. We only live .9 of a mile from Centegra Huntley so I would go to see her 4 times a day and stay quite a while each time. When I was there someone was always checking on A.
I highlight Hailie because I think she went beyond her job to see that A was comfortable when it looked like the end was coming. I spoke with Hailie and Dr. H. I made the decision and they both thanked me for making the hard decision when I decided to do the right thing. Hailie ordered a tray of food and a pot of coffee for me. About 5:30 I got Hailie and said I think it is time. She removed all of the tubes A had but left the respirator on. She told me to let her know. I held A telling her how much I loved her and will miss her even though I know she could not hear me. A little later Hailie came in and I said to remove the respirator. She did and then left the room. I held on tight to A talking to her till I knew she was gone. Hailie came in to tell me that, but I knew.
Thank you, Hailie. You are an outstanding nurse.
