My 12-year-old son was admitted for several days for asthma treatment. During the week he was there we had the pleasure of having Gracie Castilleja for our nurse. She showed excellent bedside manner and I feel she genuinely cares about the well-being of my son. All the staff we had were caring and knowledgeable however Gracie I feel went above and beyond. She would check on us, talk to my son and ask him how he was feeling and did her absolute best to make his healthcare a priority.
Most importantly she always quickly stepped in when one of the machines in the room (vital sign monitor and IV machine) would start beeping. The machines were constantly beeping all hours of the night for various reasons and Gracie would come in (multiple times between midnight - 3 am) and say "I heard the machine and wanted to take care of it before you called. I know your son needs sleep." The statement "your son needs sleep" was because he was on room oxygen and breathing treatments every two hours for several days. As you can imagine, it's exhausting for anyone to get rest when you're getting a breathing treatment every two hours, 24 hours a day for several days.
Gracie cared enough to come in the room as soon as she heard or saw an alarm. I can't express my appreciation for the care and professionalism she showed us that week. I did not see her the day he was released to go home so I could not tell her in person how much I appreciate her work and attitude. She absolutely deserves the DAISY award for her care, attitude, and Professionalism.
