My wife was a patient in the hospital after a cardiac arrest and while all the nurses were excellent, Grace stood above. The reasons I am nominating her are as follows:
She had a sensitive, positive, caring, and genuine bedside manner. She took into consideration the feelings of the people visiting my wife and constantly reminded us of how important everyone was in helping her get better. She made us feel welcome, at home and at ease during an incredibly difficult time and appeared as vested in my wife's health and well-being as our family and friends. She was extremely well-organized. During her first day as my wife's nurse, she took the time to optimally rearrange the IV machines and lines to be in the most efficient location. As an engineer, I always have an eye toward efficiency and this definitely caught it! She was very knowledgeable. She usually had answers to our questions but if she didn't she quickly found it for us.
Even on the days when my wife wasn't her patient, if my wife's nurse wasn't available for some reason, Grace would help out however she could. She made my wife as comfortable as possible given the circumstances. Grace steamed, brushed, and neatened my wife's hair on two occasions all while playing upbeat music and singing to her. When my wife started perking up more Grace played her music and they both sang together, even throwing in a couple dance moves. I would also add that our family and friends also felt the same way about Grace, with one friend even making a medal for her to show our appreciation for how great of a job she was doing!
