I was diagnosed with SIRS, while in my room it was my pleasure to be attended by two exceptional, bright young RNs: Breanne Clemmons and Godson Nubkogu.
So what made Breanne and Godson so exceptional?
Bedside manner and personality: It was difficult to be gloomy or feel sorry for myself with these two cheerful, smiling nurses. They engaged in conversation that was relevant to me, whether it pertained to the football games I was missing or to regional and world news. They were both well-read and thoughtful.
Knowledge of my diagnosis: They were both knowledgeable of why I had been admitted, understood the diagnosis and explained the IV medications and other treatments used to return my health.
Understanding my needs: Whether it was an extra pillow, another blanket, using the remote control or call button, they were never impatient, but rather acted as if I was the most important person in the hospital. They even arranged to get a snack packet and some juice when I complained about being hungry late in the evening.
Acted as my intermediary with the doctor: When I explained that I was a self-employed consultant and needed to be with my client on Monday, they sought out the doctor and explained the circumstances. As a result, the doctor took me off the IV and prescribed antibiotics that I could administer myself. I was released in time to make my appointment. While I can't say with certainty that this saved a well-paying client, it may have. It certainly went a long way toward ensuring customer satisfaction.
Breanne and Godson are the kind of professional nurses that any hospital would and should be proud of to have on staff. I left the hospital feeling that I had made two friends. As a result, given the option to select a hospital, it will be Mary Immaculate every time.
