Ginger is a constant source of strength for her patients, a role model for others, setting an example by following guiding behaviors. She forges relationships often connecting personally or spiritually. She discovers threads of commonality, such as a shared love of the Buckeyes, pets or faith. Her approach to relationship-based care provides a caring and healing environment, where prayers are frequently offered when patients face adversity.
An inpatient needing simulation/planning for a cord compression required emergent treatment. The planning process takes upwards of 1-2 hours. The patient was uncomfortable and anxious, so to pass time until treatment could ensue, Ginger sang to her having a calming effect.
She is an advocate and solver of problems even when causes are outside of our department. A concurrent patient's port blood draw was cancelled twice without the patient's knowledge. Keeping the patients' best interest to the forefront of everything, she made contact to ensure there was a solution to these mishaps.
A supply of homemade crocheted hats has been given to us for patients. We frequently run out of "free" hats, so Ginger has started a crocheting hobby, to help keep our supply plentiful. Her patients are scared and apprehensive when they come for consultation, but by the end of their treatment course it is shared they are sad to be done. This shared sentiment is a reflection of loving care Ginger provides. They may come in as strangers, but always leave as friends.
