I want to tell you about a wonderful person and nurse who helped my family and friends when my son was critically injured in an accident. The Neuro ICU staff was superb, but one nurse stood out. My son was put in the capable and wonderful hands of a caring, compassionate, and magnificent nurse - Genevieve Nicol-Sey. The first thing Gen did was talk to us and put us at ease. She told us her role and that she was here for my son, he was her priority, and she would help my son and us in any way she could. Gen cared for us as much as she cared for my son. When Gen came into his room she clearly told us what she was doing and told us not to be afraid to ask questions. Gen showed patience and caring. Even though my son was in a coma, she would speak to him as if he were awake and listening. She would talk to and joke with him and tell him about the people around him and the hundreds of get well and birthday cards he was receiving. My son was more than her patient; she treated him as family. We all knew his chances of recovery were slim. Gen, however, always offered support. She treated my son and the rest of us with utmost dignity and respect. She continually looked for ways to help my son and our family. No request was refused and no question was left unanswered. Gen always greeted us with a smile and a kind word. In an otherwise chaotic and stressful situation, Gen brought a sense of peace, calm, and comfort. She made things better for us and she did it with joy on her face and love in her heart. Gen's caring and compassion meant the world to us. Almost eight weeks after my son's accident, he walked out of the hospital. I am absolutely convinced that putting my son in Gen's capable hands led to his successful recovery. It is Gen who's in our hearts. I can't find the words that will adequately describe what Gen did for us and how she cared for my son and our family. I know I will never forget her and what she did. Gen gave us hope when there wasn't any. She provided support that can't be described in any language. Thank you doesn't seem to be enough, but thank you Gen!
