Even though he has been in the PACU for less than a year, Gary has demonstrated his commitment to his patients, making certain their needs are met, and that they have the best experience he can provide. Gary gives excellent care to his patients and does not hesitate in advocating for his patient's care needs. Last week, Gary intervened in a crucial situation and redirected those involved back to the focus on the patient versus a controversy that happened. Gary is a newer nurse and I think it is awesome that he is professional, assertive, and confident in his communications with his patients and their families, coworkers, and our physicians. Gary demonstrated patient advocacy to our staff on this evening. Gary shares his knowledge freely and resources other PACU RNs with critical patients.
Gary has recently volunteered to serve on the Clinical Practice Council and is working on routine protocols for PACU with our Chief of Anesthesia. Gary is a great team member and jumps in to help others without any prompting. Most of our patients are awake prior to leaving the recovery area and, as it should be, most do not remember their stay in the PACU, their nurse's day, or the great care they received. I'm proud of Gary for speaking up for the patient when the patient was not able.

Gary is a very knowledgeable, competent, professional, and compassionate nurse. Gary is a strong patient advocate and has excellent collegial relationships with the physicians, respiratory therapists, coworkers, and other disciplines. He has a strong critical care background and frequently serves as a resource to fellow staff members and students. Gary has a contagious positive attitude and great flexibility in accepting complex, difficult cases and really any assignment that rolls into the Recovery Room. He models teamwork in an exceptional manner. Some recent comments from coworkers include 'Gary is an awesome nurse to have in emergency and critical situations,' 'Gary is the first RN I go to for critical issues,' 'Gary is always willing to help everyone,' 'Gary is well read and not afraid to ask questions,' 'he communicates well with our surgeons and anesthesiologists,' 'he is very personable and well respected.'
