The core of nursing is caring for one's patient but only so few go beyond that. Rye exemplified this in both his actions and in his service.
For the past few days, I have been living a nightmare filled with stress and fear that I could not find a way to wake up from. As the surgery grew closer, my anxiety only grew stronger. With my mind growing more jumbled by the hour, Nurse Rye came in. He showed not only the usual kindness and sympathetic approach necessary for any and all nurses, but he also showed poise and a sense of authority that added a stable presence in this hour of need. With the results from the Angiogram that I could only hope to interpret, he handled my constant barrage of questions with patience and calmness while offering a clearer picture of what was going on.
In this recommendation, I sadly do not have a grand story like nurses in war movies or hospital dramas but being a nurse to me is all about the little moments. The briefest of moments when the fear is about to cave in, but a guiding hand alleviates all the pressure while giving a brief respite from the worry and the anxiety.
