I was admitted to Physicians Regional-Collier Blvd. in January with a diabetic ulcer on my foot. I have Brittle diabetes which is very difficult to control. My nurse, Frances, asked me why my diabetes was so high. I explained to her that I thought it was due to stress because I am not working, and I'm not living at home at this time. She listened to everything, and made me feel comfortable.

On the second day of my admission, after breakfast, I became lethargic and hard to arouse. Frances checked on me and recognized a change in my condition. She contacted the Nursing Supervisor, and they gave me glucose to raise my blood sugar. During the following hours, I was in and out of consciousness. However, I recall Frances encouraging me to pull through. She would say, "You can do it. Come on, come on." At one point, I was on the verge of letting go, and Frances said, "Remember your children, fight, fight! "I will be forever grateful that Frances didn't give up on me. She was so patient and compassionate. If it weren't for her persistence, I may not have made it through. I believe that she saved my life. I continue to hear her voice in my head encouraging me.

I have worked in nursing homes and hospitals, and I recognize quality care when I see it. Frances provides quality care. I would look forward to the next time Frances was on duty. She would always come in, and let me know that she was here for me. Her clinical skills and compassion made me feel safe. I used to have anxiety about bothering the nurses, but I didn't feel that way with Frances. She was on top of everything. I rang the call light and expected to see the aide, but Frances came in. She even emptied my bedside commode. She would round every hour. Frances is definitely in the right profession.
