Here is a "perfect daisy." This nurse has served as the RN in the adult allergy/immunology clinic for the last 13 years. She is a patient advocate and a problem solver for both patients and physicians. She manages drug toxicity screening for a large number of patients on immunotherapy drugs for rheumatic and immunodeficiency diseases and manages to get patients to comply with this screening on time without acrimony. She works endlessly with insurance and drug companies to get medications covered when they can't otherwise afford them. She keeps up with the life events of our patients and spontaneously calls them with words of encouragement, words that decrease stress and improve health outcomes. She has the ability to differentiate between a serious complaint and one which can wait until the next visit to sort out. She anticipates provider needs, applying her extensive knowledge base to all tasks at hand. I have never heard her say 'that's not my job.' She cheerfully shares her expertise with newer nurses, including assisting with training of specialty nurses for other clinics. She is the ultimate allergy-immunology nurse demonstrating the utmost competency, compassion, empathy and professionalism. We appreciate her as a colleague, friend and patient advocate. I have heard patients say over and over, "she is the best nurse I have known." She is also active in her church, volunteers for mission trips abroad, is a great cook...and a terrific gardener who lives daisies.
