I have deep brain stimulation and made an appointment to have my battery checked. I told the Physician Assistant (PA) that I had a scab on my scalp next to the wire that goes into my brain and would like to have the battery replaced and have a doctor remove the scab or take a biopsy of it at the same time. We scheduled surgery for a future date. The PA said that I should go up to Neurology and see if a nurse is available to look at the scab even though I didn't have an appointment. Fiona was able to see me and she had me take a blood test to see if the scab was infected, and the test was negative. A couple of weeks later, my daughters looked at the scab and said it didn't look good and that I should move up the surgery if possible. I called Fiona and she said to send her pictures of the scab. After she saw the pictures, she ordered another blood test and scheduled an appointment with her. After the appointment, she thought the scab was serious enough to hospitalize me and work in a surgery next day. The night before the operation, my daughter dreamed that there were two angels overlooking the surgery. When I awoke in post-surgery, two angels were there to greet me, Fiona Lynn and her assistant, Katie Fasullo. I have never seen that kind of care and it really brightened my spirits.
I saw Fiona the following week and she informed me that the scab was Angiosarcoma, Grade III of the scalp. When she told me this, I had tears in my eyes and she did as well. That exemplifies the empathy that she has toward her patients. She said that she would expedite surgery as quickly as possible and it involves two surgeons, one to remove the tumor and one to hold the wire going into my brain so that it is not cut. The tumor encircled the wire making it a very difficult surgery. When I awoke in post-surgery, those two angels were there again to make sure that I was okay.
I deeply appreciate the treatment and extraordinary care that Fiona has given me and for her expediting the removal of the tumor. She gave me great care and I thank her.
