Our mum was admitted to NGH. She was so unwell that when she arrived there she went straight into resus. The care she received there up until she was moved to EAU was exemplary, as was on EAU we had no complaints, the staff on that ward went above and beyond. They eventually managed to secure a side room for mum, because she was EOL and needed peace and quiet.
We were then moved to CreatonWard midafternoon to a side room. This was a Godsend as we as a family were able to spend some nice family time with mum before she passed away. Fiona was the nurse assigned to mum and she greeted us with a big smile and reassured us that mum was in the best hands and that if we needed anything, then all we had to do was ask.
As a family, we would like to thank Fiona from the bottom of our hearts, because we would not have got through such a difficult time without her. In mum's final couple of days, Fiona made everything as perfect as it could be. When the end was imminent, Fiona was present and stayed with us and comforted us whilst this happened. She made us feel as though we were part of the process and she just had the air of calm about her that helped us and at no time did we feel under pressure to hurry.
We felt that Fiona went above and beyond her duties to enable mum's passing to seem as bearable as possible. She is a caring nurse and should be very proud of how she conducts herself. Although the whole experience went through without a hiccup, we feel that Fiona stood out heads above the rest.
