A patient arrived to infusion for treatment and spoke with Evelyn Vitale RN regarding the need for breast prosthesis. The patient stated that she was unable to fit the appointment into her schedule and expressed disappointment. While the patient sat for her infusion treatment, Evelyn made phone calls to see if she could make arrangements for the patient. Evelyn had a very busy day working the front desk of the infusion department but made an effort knowing that it was important to the patient. Evelyn called the prosthetic shop to check their hours of operation, made an appointment for the patient and arranged for the patient to be taken to the shop, brought back and still be able to make other appointments and get home on time. When the patient completed her infusion treatment, Evelyn gave the patient her agenda for the next day. The patient was thrilled. The next day the patient came back to the infusion room to thank Evelyn again and show Evelyn her new prosthesis. The patient was brought to tears by the thoughtfulness and diligence of Evelyn. Although Evelyn could have listened to the patient's story about having to wait and reschedule her prosthetic appointment and chalk it up to another sad story, she chose to make a difference and make a sad day extremely happy for this patient. Evelyn definitely went above and beyond for this patient.
